Oregon is a destination for fly fishermen from all over the world, and some of them were in Reedsport over the weekend.

The Fly Fishing Expo was there, along with a world class fly fisherman and a man who says the sport saved his life.

"Sit back, relax, and let the rod do the work." That is Frank Moore's advice for first-time fly fishers. "It's very easy, and if an old man of 90-years-old can do it, well, it must be easy," Moore said.

It's that ease and relaxation that got this fresh water fishing hall-of-famer to the age of 90. "Just to be out in the nature is therapeutic in itself," he said.

But, lounging by the river isn't the only thing about the fly-fishing industry that's therapeutic.

Patience, steady hands and good eyesight: that's what it takes to tie flies, and that's what Chuck Scott says saved his life. "I had a couple of open heart surgeries, and my doctor told me that I needed something to calm myself down," Scott said. "So, he suggested fly tying and fly fishing."

That was 25 years ago.
