From tomorrow, the same rules will apply to recreational fishing through the state.
The changes were announced late last year in a bid to make the system easier to understand and enforce.
The new rules affect the number of different species that each person can catch, as well as how many fish can be transported out of a region.
The department's Nathan Harrison says there is plenty of information available for people to read.
"It's there, it's easy to understand, we want to work with the community to make sure people are aware of these changes and put the fun back into fishing," he said.
"The best thing you can do it get a copy of the new guide which will walk you through all the different bag limits and size limits across the state.
"Those guides are available from fisheries' officers and they're also available from a lot of the leading tackle stores."
