You may be surprised to know that a Mobile woman holds not one, not two, but 12 world fishing records.
She set them all in Costa Rica, and doesn't plan to stop casting reels anytime soon.
If you ask people who live on the Gulf Coast to name their passions, you'll most likely hear fishing. But for Sjon Harless, fishing is a bit more than a hobby. After all, she's one of the world's best at reeling in the big catch.
"They're 12 International Game Fish Association world records, which means that each one is a different line class," she said.
Harless' dozen world records are proudly displayed on a wall in her home.
"All of these have to be approved. I have to have witnesses, and like five pages of paperwork," Harless added. "They are mullet, snappers, barracudas, jacks, rooster fish."
"She's kind of a big deal, and people talk about her all the time," said Hope Harless, who holds one world record.
The fishing skills run in the family. Sjon's daughter and husband each hold world records.
Sjon's fishing expertise will gain national exposure. She will be doing a National Geographic Critter Cam.
Her goal is to set 100 international records, and her daughter plans to follow suit.
