Two people have died while three others are feared dead when a canoe they were paddling in capsized after it was hit by a Hippo at Nyimba fishing camp in Chief Hamusonde's area in Monze district of Southern Province
The dead are Trywell Choombe, a Community Wildlife Scout, and Nawa Namangolwa a fisherman.
They died during operations to round up illegal fishermen.
Police say the Wildlife Authority Officers were searching for a fishing net belonging to one of the three illegal fishermen that were apprehended.
The fishermen are Maxwell Namukolo, Patrick Simaata and Kakundu Nyambe.
Only the body of Choombe has been retrieved while the search for Namangolwa has continued.
Police are investigating the matter.
And ZAWA officers have shot dead the hippo in question.
The animal is believed to have been aggressive and threatening people at the fishing camp.
